We treat cold sore (oral herpes) outbreaks and evaluate for long-term suppressive therapy.
This visit includes an assessment of:

Tingling, itching, or burning around the mouth or lips

Fluid-filled blisters or open sores
-
Pain, swelling, or redness at the site

Fever, sore throat, or swollen lymph nodes

Recurring outbreaks (1 or more in the past year)

Triggers such as stress, illness, sun exposure, or menstruation
If appropriate, your provider may:

Prescribe Valacyclovir (Valtrex) for acute treatment

Recommend suppressive therapy for 3+ outbreaks/year

Order HSV-1/HSV-2 antibody testing if you’re unsure of your diagnosis

Order a CMP lab panel (required for suppressive treatment)
❌ What We Do Not Treat
We do not:

Treat eye involvement, genital herpes, or systemic HSV complications

Treat children under 12 years old

Prescribe narcotics or controlled substances

Start suppressive therapy without baseline labs
-
Treat cold sores with no current or recent symptoms
