Topical Finasteride 0.3% + Minoxidil 6% Spray Treatment Plan

This medication is designed to help prevent hair loss and promote new hair growth for people with Male Pattern Baldness or androgenetic alopecia. Emerging studies have shown that a topical treatment alternative to oral finasteride is a safe and effective option to treat male-pattern hair loss.

Unlike oral finasteride, topical finasteride + minoxidil spray is a compounded product and has not been approved by the FDA. You may only take this medicine if your doctor determines that this treatment is fit and safe for you..

Are There Any Precautions I Should Know While Using This Topical Medication?

  • Pregnant women (due to the possibility of absorption of finasteride and the subsequent potential risk to a male fetus), or individuals who have the ability to become pregnant, breastfeeding women, and individuals < than 18 years old should not take or handle this medication.
  • Minoxidil is a TOXIC SUBSTANCE for DOGS and CATS. Please make sure to keep this away from your pets, especially cats and dogs for safety. Should this happen, please consult your pet's veterinarian.

Avoid this medication if you are allergic to any of these active ingredients:

  • Finasteride
  • Minoxidil

Do not use this topical medication if any of the following apply to you:

  • You are taking oral finasteride for hair loss or treatment of an enlarged prostate (Propecia®, Proscar®). Oral finasteride and topical finasteride + minoxidil spray cannot be used at the same time
  • You are currently taking other medications in the same class as finasteride (5-alpha reductase inhibitors: dutasteride, Avodart®, Jalyn®).
  • You are allergic to any of the ingredients of topical finasteride + minoxidil.
  • You have chronic liver disease.
  • You are pregnant, trying to get pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
  • You are younger than 18 years of age.
  • You have a history of breast cancer.
  • You have a history of prostate cancer.

How do I use this topical medication?

Make sure to wash your hands with soap immediately after you apply for the medicine.
  • This medication should be used once a day only: in the morning or at night. During the evening, apply the medication 30 minutes to 1 hour before bedtime.
  • Apply at least four sprays of this topical medication which is more or less enough to cover the area on the scalp affected by hair loss. If you have multiple areas affected by hair loss, disperse the 4 sprays across those areas. Apply the medication gently into the scalp using your fingers. Carefully blot any excess medication to avoid it running on your face.
  • Remove excess medication on your face with mild soap and water. Note that hair can grow anywhere on the skin that the medication comes into contact with.
  • Immediately wash your hands with soap after applying the medicine.
  • Avoid getting your hair wet for at least four hours after applying the medication.

Any Practical Tips for Using This Medication / Treatment?

  • To minimize breakage of new hair that’s grown, use a wide-spaced comb or brush
  • Minimize or avoid using a blow dryer after applying your medication to dry it faster. This may interfere with the medicine’s absorption on your scalp.
What If I Forget To Apply This Medication / Treatment Plan?
  • Please use the medication as prescribed, which is a maximum of once a day. If you use more than the recommended amount of medication or treatment, it will not improve results. Instead, it may increase the risk of unwanted side effects.

Is It Ok to Use This Medication / Treatment More Than Once A Day?

  • To minimize breakage of new hair that’s grown, use a wide-spaced comb or brush
  • Minimize or avoid using a blow dryer after applying your medication to dry it faster. This may interfere with the medicine’s absorption on your scalp.
What Can I Expect to Experience During Treatment With This Medication?
  • Missing an application occasionally is fine. But note that the medication only works effectively if you use it as prescribed, which is daily.
  • You may experience scalp irritation (e.g., itching, redness, stinging, flaking) upon beginning treatment. But these symptoms are normally mild and short-lived.
What If I Stop This Treatment? What Will Happen?
  • Stopping medication means losing the benefits gained from the treatment. Your normal hair loss / shedding will likely resume.
