PAROXETINE

What is Paxil and why is this medication prescribed?

Paxil is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), a prescription medication approved by the FDA for treating anxiety, depression, and other conditions. While known to treat many cases of premature ejaculation, it has not been specifically approved for that use by the FDA. Paxil may be taken daily to enhance overall performance in bed and increase climax control.

A licensed medical doctor may prescribe Paxil to patients who they assessed are safe with it and whose condition can be treated by Paxil. Prescription medicines are only made available to patients with a prescription, and patients are only able to access the medicine if prescribed to them by a healthcare provider after going through an online consultation.

How Does Paroxetine (Paxil) Work?

Paxil may be prescribed for daily use and enhances overall performance in bed while helping to increase climax control. It addresses common sexual dysfunction issues such as premature ejaculation. Paxil works to inhibit the in vitro and in vivo synthesis of nitric oxide, a key mediator of penile erection and penile smooth muscle relaxation.

Anything I should avoid while using Paxil?

Avoid conducting hazardous activities, even driving, while taking Paxil, until you know how your body responds to it. There is a chance that your reactions could be impaired whilst taking the drug. Always consult your doctor before taking NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). These include aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), celecoxib (Celebrex x), peproner (Aleve), meloxicam, and similar others. Taking Paxil while using NSAIDs could make you bleed, or bruise more easily. Beware of drinking alcohol while on Paxil as this too have side effects.

How much Paxil can I take?

You must always consult your doctor regarding your specific prescription. Paxil may be taken daily or as needed, but it largely depends on how much is allowed by your doctor. If taken daily, Paxil can be between 10mg to 20mg daily. If taken as needed, Paxil can be taken at 20mg, 3-4 hours before sexual activity.

How long will it take for Paxil to take effect?

It can take between 4-6 weeks before one can enjoy the maximum benefits of daily Paxil dosing. When taking Paxil as needed basis only, others may see immediate improvement with their condition. But in most cases, “as needed” dosing will not be as effective as daily dosing of Paxil. You must also give the medicine a minimum of 6weeks to work. Do not stop the medication after seeing no results within a week or two weeks.

What is the proper way to take Paxil?

Don’t miss to read and always follow the directions written on the label. Also, it is imperative to take Paxil as prescribed by your doctor. Do not chew, crush, or break the Paxil tablet, instead, swallow it whole. Shake the Paxil oral suspension (liquid) before measuring for a dose. Always use the dosing syringe included in the package, not a regular kitchen spoon. Finally, do not suddenly stop taking Paxil as withdrawal symptoms could be unpleasant and this prevents you from fully enjoying the benefits of the medicine. If you have questions, ask your doctor, and if you would like to stop decisively, consult your doctor’s advice on the right way to do it.

Can I overdose Paxil? What to do if it happens?

There is a recommended dosage of Paxil and taking too much (by accident) may lead to symptoms like vomiting, fast heart rate, shaking, seizures, sleepiness, or fever. In case you overdose on Paxil and need to go to the hospital to seek emergency care, get someone else to drive you or call an ambulance. Never drive all by yourself going to the hospital.

What things should I inform my doctor before taking Paxil?

Before you take any prescription meds, always let your healthcare provider know what other vitamins, supplements, over-the-counter non prescription meds, and prescription meds you are taking. These may include:

  • Medicines for treating migraines
  • Medicines for treating psychiatric disorders (includes anti-depressants and amphetamines) to avoid serotonin syndrome, a potentially life-threatening condition
  • Aspirin
  • Other NSAID pain relievers
  • Other blood thinners that can heighten risk of bleeding
  • Medicines for treating irregular heartbeat
  • Medicines for treating HIV infection
